Sheet Vinyl Flooring Maintenance

All our sheet vinyl floors are designed to be low-maintenance and highly durable, offering reliable protection against everyday wear and accidental spills, while requiring only simple care such as regular vacuuming, brushing, or dry mopping. However, it is essential that you read and follow the full maintenance instructions to ensure optimal performance and long-lasting appearance.

Regular classic maintenance

Maintenance needs will vary depending on how much traffic your space receives, the type of use, and the surrounding conditions. To keep your floor looking its best, simply remove surface dust and dirt by regularly vacuuming, sweeping, or dry and damp mopping, ideally on a daily basis in busy areas.

Intensive occasional maintenance

To keep a sheet vinyl floor looking its best all year round, we recommend carrying out a more thorough deep clean once a year. Seasonal changes and different levels of use may also affect how often this is needed. Be careful not to use too much water or detergent, as this can leave a residue or damage the surface over time.

  • Safety flooring with anti-slip textures or embossed surfaces can retain more dirt and therefore may need more frequent or more intensive cleaning.
  • Start with a non-abrasive, neutral-pH cleaner, then use a suitable cleaning machine with immediate wet vacuum extraction before mopping. Do not use scrubbing or steam machines. For larger areas, professional machines with soft brushes and vacuum extraction are recommended.
  • Do not polish sheet vinyl floor coverings.
  • A wide range of floor disinfection products are available on the market. It is impossible for IVC to test them all, recommendations should be made from the relevant manufacturer. Chlorine based disinfecting products can be occasionally used if they are correctly diluted as per the manufacturer’s instructions, applied shortly and effectively rinsed with clean water after their use.

Spills and stain cleaning

Spills and stains are inevitable, often prompt treatment will reduce the risk of permanent staining. Stains can be of multiple origin, like acids, alkalis, blood, oil or tomato containing sauces … and many more. Each might need a different approach to remove the stain. Always use the least aggressive cleaning option first.

  • Remove spills as quickly as possible. Blot with a dry cloth or paper towel, then clean with water. If the stain has dried, place a damp cloth over it for a few minutes to soften it, then gently wipe from the outside in toward the center.
  • Only use detergents/cleaning products when the above is not sufficient to remove the spill/stain. Use correctly diluted neutral pH detergents and remove excess detergent with a towel or cloth soaked with plain water.
  • Only use cleaning products if water alone is not enough. Always choose a correctly diluted, neutral-pH detergent and wipe away any residue with a clean cloth and plain water.
  • Do not use white spirit, turpentine, or other solvents on adhesive residues. If needed, use a small amount of methylated spirit (denatured alcohol) briefly and carefully.
  • In wet rooms and kitchens, use diluted descaler, vinegar, or a mild acid cleaner, and always rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Rubber stains from shoes can be removed with eraser gum.
  • Small visible stains that are present are very easily and completely cleanable / removable with the Dr. Schutz flooring cleaners:
    • Spraymax for easy superficial stains
    • Clean & Strip for slightly tougher stains.
    • Other stains: treat quickly, diluting with water and a non-abrasive household detergent
